STRAWBERRY DISEASE DETECTION

Strawberry Disease Detection Improved: UF/IFAS scientists are enhancing Florida’s strawberry industry 🍓 by integrating AI into the Strawberry Advisory System (SAS) to improve leaf wetness detection and disease forecasting. | UF IFAS Blogs

  • Researchers Won Suk Lee and Natalia Peres developed an AI system that uses imaging to detect leaf wetness more accurately than current sensors, with a 96% accuracy rate compared to manual observations and 84% compared to existing SAS models. 🔎

  • The new AI technology helps predict fungal diseases like botrytis and anthracnose by detecting moisture levels with greater precision, potentially leading to more effective fungicide applications.

  • The integration of this AI system into SAS aims to replace less reliable sensors, offering a more dependable method for disease forecasting and extending its potential use to other crops beyond strawberries.
