Automate. Delegate. Eliminate. These 3 words were one of the key takeaways from recent Florida Business Incubators Association Annual conference. They spoke our language and will share a recap soon. Today's edition features Capital City Chamber’s 30th Anniversary and the Godby High Marching Band. Also, we stumbled on a construction rendering of Citadel’s proposed supertall building in Brickell, Miami. Nice to admire, yet fortunate to be in a big town that will not allow such a behemoth take place.✨✨

  • In 1994, the Capital City Chamber of Commerce was established to serve as a bridge for local businesses. The organization was founded by a dozen members when the Chamber first began. Over the years, the membership has grown steadily and now includes nearly 200 members.

  • It has been supporting minority-owned businesses for 3 decades, regardless of their scale. Their services offered include networking opportunities, workshops, and partnerships with local organizations to facilitate access to capital and financial support.

  • "For us to reach 30 years and being sustainable as a minority entity is really huge, especially nowadays," Chamber President and Executive Director Katrina Tuggerson said. "... Any little thing can take a minority business out. So we know how it feels to just keep rebuilding and keep going," she added. | Tal Dem

  • They celebrated their 30-year milestone during a two-day Advantage Conference and dinner celebration, during which plans for a new building were revealed.

  • The former C&L Printing and Bindery site at 114 FAMU Way is set to be retrofitted as part of plans that also involve creating office space for the Chamber. The concept is to create a place that serves various community purposes, with the Chamber's office and functions at the core. This $500,000 project is expected to commence in spring next year and finish within the same year.

  • During halftime, Superintendent Rocky Hanna presented the Iconic Blue Flame Marching Band of Godby High with a $140,000 check to buy new band uniforms and instruments.

  • "I was overcome and overwhelmed with emotion," said marching band director Timotheus Harper. "We don't have all the money in the world to outfit and equip these kids. It's not just about the equipment and uniforms though, it just means a lot to see that they truly care about the kids."

  • Hanna will be presenting a $50,000 check at football games to all five Leon County public high schools for the purpose of purchasing new instruments. The funds will be sourced from the district's capital outlay fund, which can be allocated for equipment.

  • Rickards High School was the first to receive $50,000 on Aug. 30 during a home game against Gainesville High School. The additional $90,000 given out at Godby is solely for uniforms, which can cost about $1,000 each.
