🥳 The Suwannee River Area Council, Boy Scouts of America group recently held their Jamboree celebration to mark a century of community service and is excited about their future plans. | WTXL

  • The Suwannee River Area Council, Boy Scouts of America was incorporated in 1924. Since that time, they dedicated themselves to teaching the young people they work with the character, values, and traditions that set the Boy Scouts of America apart. The council serves 13 counties across south Georgia and north Florida.

  • While the council has been officially chartered since 1924, individual troops were already active in what is now the Suwannee River Area Council for 12 years prior to that. Thomasville is the first town in the area to establish a troop that would eventually be part of the Suwannee River Area Council. The initiative was led by Will Watt, a young entrepreneur deeply committed to supporting the local youth. In June 1912, Watt traveled with a few Thomasville boys to Staunton, Virginia to take part in a summer camp program. Once home from the trip, he wasted no time gathering community support to start a Boy Scout troop in Thomasville.

  • The council aims to offer an engaging and high-quality program that fosters well-rounded youth through learning and adventure. Joining them is easy, choose the program that is right for your family. 🥾🧭
