| ✨ New Study Explores Stress Factors in Florida’s Building Foundations | FSU News A new study led by Assistant Professor Scott Wasman from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering will investigate how construction processes and geology affect the stresses in Florida's building and bridge foundations. 🏗️🏛️ Researchers will use fiber optic sensing to measure thermal and mechanical strains in bored pile foundations along Florida’s Atlantic coast and in South Florida. The study will focus on how heat dissipation from curing concrete affects the expansion and contraction of limestone and soil, influencing stress in the piles. The Florida Department of Transportation is funding the research with $429,000 to improve foundation design and safety in Florida’s unique geologic conditions.
