🌟 FSU iGEM Team Shines at International Competition. | FSU News

  • Florida State University's iGEM team won its second-ever gold medal at the 2024 iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris, recognized for their innovative work on a breathalyzer to assist treatment for the rare metabolic disorder, trimethylaminuria (TMAU).

  • Comprising 11 undergraduate students from six colleges, the team developed a device to monitor trimethylamine levels, aiding personalized care for individuals with TMAU, a condition affecting 1 in 200,000 to 1 million people. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

  • FSU’s participation showcased teamwork across different fields and included community outreach activities, such as the Biotechnology Expo at the Challenger Learning Center where K-8 students learned about Synthetic Biology.

  • Competing against over 400 teams from around the world, FSU earned its place alongside top institutions like MIT, Stanford, and Oxford, proving its leadership in synthetic biology research and advocacy for rare diseases.
