| | | 💰 UF Leads $285 Million SMART USA Institute for Semiconductor Innovation. | UF News The University of Florida (UF) leads the Florida/Caribbean hub of the $285 million SMART USA Institute, which aimed to advance the semiconductor industry using digital twins—virtual models that simulated production lines to optimize manufacturing. 🏭 Volker Sorger, Ph.D., from UF, directed the hub and collaborated with industry leaders like NVIDIA and Synopsys, as well as universities such as Florida International University and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez. The institute focused on digital twins, allowing manufacturers to test and improve semiconductor designs without building physical prototypes, saving time and money while speeding up innovation. ⏫ UF’s HiPerGator supercomputer and AI expertise helped develop more efficient, cost-effective methods for semiconductor manufacturing, boosting the industry’s growth and innovation.
