| | | | | 🤝 Supporting local businesses for downtown Tallahassee’s success. | Tal Dem Elias Mathes, the CEO of the Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority (TDIA), is a community and economic development specialist. He founded the All Saints Hop Yard event venue and The Grain restaurant while attending FSU’s graduate program in urban planning. He shared his insights on building a dynamic and thriving downtown Tallahassee. TDIA adopted a new strategic plan in 2024 with the mission of cultivating an 18-hour downtown through five primary program areas: beautification, planning and public infrastructure, marketing and promotions, economic development, and special events. They plan to roll out the programs throughout 2025. Entrepreneurs and business owners are making significant investments contributing to the economic vitality of the area. The public sector is also playing a key role, working collaboratively with business leaders, property owners, and community organizations to foster growth and development. Community events and cultural programming are critical components of revitalization efforts that will bring people together, fostering a sense of pride and belonging. 👏 How to support local businesses: The first step is to be engaged in what is already happening—attend events, support local businesses, and experience downtown firsthand. Support by choosing to dine and shop at local businesses. 💖 | TLH Downtown Directory

| | | 💡 Skills-Based Hiring Practices Workshop Series | Tallahassee Chamber What is Skills-Based Hiring? Skills-based hiring is a talent recruitment strategy in which companies identify and evaluate skills and competencies to fill open positions, understanding that a candidate's background doesn't always reflect their true capabilities. This holistic process can minimize bias and bring more consistency and intentionality to the hiring process. Why is Skills-Based Hiring Important? In today’s economic climate, many businesses are struggling to retain, attract and promote employees. Although finding the right talent is essential for a company's success, both employers and employees recognize that conventional hiring methods are often ineffective. Some industry sectors are said to be losing up to 93% of potential candidates due to this approach. Embracing skills-based hiring offers a fresh perspective and a better chance at success.
