| 🛣️🌿 Ever wondered about those huge dirt walls on Meridian Rd here in Tallahassee? | Strained Memory IG Post Scenic drives are a hallmark of the Tallahassee area, particularly its renowned canopy roads, where the massive limbs of moss-covered live oaks, sweet gums, hickories, and pines create a lofty, cooling cover over the routes once traversed by Native American tribes. Tallahassee’s 9 official canopy roads: Centerville Rd., Moccasin Gap Rd., Miccosukee Rd., Old Centerville Rd., Sunny Hill Rd., Pisgah Church Rd., Meridian Rd., Old Bainbridge Rd., and Old St. Augustine Rd., stretching over 78 mi. of captivating shaded paths that offer a tranquil, adventurous escape. | Visit Tallahassee History Fact: Turns out the people in the 1800’s were pretty smart with (some of) the stuff they were doing. When the road was laid out in 1924, they chose to build through the forest hills instead of around them, giving the canopy road its unique look and feel today. This decision also made the route more accessible for both foot travel and horse-drawn wagons over time.

Well, guess what – it's just another day in Naples. | Matt Devitt via IG Family of bears in Naples were caught on a ring camera going right up to the front door to say hello in the Winding Cypress community. The Florida black bear population is estimated at around 4,050 bears living across the state as of 2016. Florida's black bear is a subspecies of the American black bear, and their habitat has shrunk to about 45% of what it used to be. Fun fact: There was a bear sighting in Southeast Tallahassee in November 2022. | WFSU News
