Amaya Waymon released a book that helps young girls to understand the cycle of menstruation. | WTXL

  • "Oh No, My Period Started! It's Okay" is a children's book about a young girl who unexpectedly got her period at school and got embarrassed by it. The book is also a tool to promote broader knowledge about monthly periods and empower young girls to not be embarrassed because of it.

  • The book was based on Waymon’s own upsetting experience of having her first period at school, that’s the reason why she decided to write it to reassure young girls that having a period is normal and natural. The book is still available at Barnes & Noble.

  • In addition to being an author, Waymon is also a period philanthropist. She runs a non-profit organization called The Girl Flo, which provides menstruation products to schools and colleges.
