| | SOCIAL MEDIA DISINFORMATION |
| | | 🌐 States Work to Fight Disinformation During Emergencies. | GovTech Florida's Legal Actions Against Misinformation: Florida passed a law attempting to prevent social media platforms from banning political content, especially from politicians, but the law is currently on hold as the U.S. Supreme Court reviews its constitutionality. 🧑🏻⚖️ A new law that took effect on January 1, 2025, now requires social media platforms to ban Floridians younger than 14. 🙅🏻♂️ Meta's decision to end its fact-checking program has raised concerns about the spread of misinformation, especially during emergencies like the LA wildfires, where false information quickly circulated online. A few states, like California, passed a law requiring online platforms to remove fake or AI-generated election-related content within 72 hours of complaints and grant politicians the right to sue for non-compliance.
