| ✨ Kathleen Amm has made her way back to Tallahassee as the director of the Maglab. | 850 Business Magazine The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) is a high-performing facility associated with FSU, the University of Florida, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. It boasts multiple world records for its strong magnets and welcomes partnerships from both academic institutions and private companies to explore magnetic field research across various scientific fields. 🧲 When the MagLab first opened, Dr. Kathleen Amm was pursuing her graduate studies in condensed matter physics at FSU. “I went into physics because of my father,” Amm said. “He was a good geophysicist and always inspired me with science when I was young.” Amm took on her new role in May 2024, bringing over 25 years of industrial and academic research experience. Her journey began back in 1996 when she was a graduate student at FSU, where she and her collaborators created a method for producing mercury-barium-calcium-copper-oxide-based superconductor materials, leading to her first patent. Since leaving FSU, she has collaborated on a total of 22 patents and has over 70 publications, ranging in topics from superconductors to applications of magnetic fields. Her extensive experience in both industrial and academic institutions made her the clear top choice to lead the MagLab into uncharted territory.

| | | | | 🚀 Diana Trujillo is the 108th flight director at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. | NASA Diana Trujillo's remarkable skills, determination, and intelligence have enabled her to fulfill her dream of becoming an Aerospace Engineer at NASA, making history as the first Latina to head one of the agency's space missions. Early Life: Diana was born and raised in Cali, Colombia, where women’s opportunities in STEM fields were limited. She grew up fascinated by space, often gazing up at the stars, and dreamed of one-day exploring space. At the age of 17, she took a bold step and relocated to the United States. With just $300 in her pocket, limited English skills, and no specific plans, she arrived in Florida and began her journey to space. | SD2 Education: In the U.S., she worked full-time as a housekeeper to support herself as she learned English and studied engineering at Miami-Dade Community College. After moving to the University of Florida, she submitted her application for the NASA Academy at Goddard Space Flight Center. She made history by becoming the first Hispanic woman immigrant to gain admission to this esteemed program. She relocated to Maryland and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland. In 2014, she was listed as one of the 20 most influential Latinos in the Technology Industry. In June 2024, she became the 108th flight director at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX). She’ll lead missions into space – specifically focusing on Mars exploration. 🤩 She is a passionate advocate for women and Latinos in STEM fields. In 2021, she co-created and hosted NASA’s first-ever Spanish-language broadcast of a planetary landing, “Juntos Perseveramos,” to ensure that more people can learn about the Perseverance mission to Mars and to showcase the diverse team at NASA who made the mission possible.

| Thomas Puketza | Tips When Shooting a Video Tom, a Speaker Coach and TEDx Speaker, offers insightful advice on mastering public speaking. In his LinkedIn post, he shares a practical tip on how to appear as friendly as possible during your video presentation. “A decent rule of thumb when watching your content to check for this: if you were talking to someone in person and they made as much direct and sustained eye contact as you did in your video, would it make you feel uncomfortable? Keeping this principle in mind and checking for it when shooting videos will win you points in your viewers' minds in ways they may not even consciously realize.” Tom is also one of the organizers for the highly anticipated 5th event of TEDxGainesville: Emergence, taking place on June 21st at 12 PM, with tickets starting at $25. | Tickets Follow TEDxGainesville socials for the latest updates: LI and FB
